Rhinoplasty from Dr. Ashley Robey Indianapolis Plastic Surgeon
Aesthetic surgery of the nose is termed rhinoplasty. Open and closed surgical techniques exist to address undesirable cosmetic appearances of the nose. An open rhinoplasty means that an incision will be placed across the columella in addition to those incisions hidden on the inside of your nose. An open rhinoplasty allows for more exposure of nasal framework and is especially helpful when doing work on the nasal tip.
A closed rhinoplasty means no incision across the columella of the nose; exposure is obtained through incisions or hidden on the inside of the nose.
Literature supports that about 1 out of 10 patients undergoing rhinoplasty will subsequently undergo a revision rhinoplasty. Like in patient's initial rhinoplasty, there are various approaches and techniques that can be utilized to achieve your goals.
Osteotomies are utilized in rhinoplasties to reposition the nasal bones to recreate smooth nasal lines. Cartilage grafts and dermal grafts may also be utilized to restore both the structural integrity and ideal appearance of your nose.
The nasal septum is the bony and cartilaginous midline of the nose that provides structure, support and divides the nose into the right and left sides. A deviated septum occurs when this midline structure is pushed off toward one side of the midline.
A deviated septum can happen congenitally or from minor trauma, amongst other reasons. When the septum becomes deviated, the normal air flow pattern of the nose is negatively affected, causing nasal obstruction.
